Show Bank Holidays in the book-holiday/leave calendar, show them as a colour as they are on the main calender. Would give the user a better understanding of how many days they have off.

I thought it already does that, infact It wont let you pick bank hols and thats an issue for people who need to use Bank Hols as Annual Leave.

Are you sure yo dont see a difference?
